Sincerely Loving Someone With Mental Illness

For some folk, they may believe that love can only go so far. When friends and extended family are told of their situation relating to being able to loving someone with mental illness and various other disorders, they don't always understand their predicament. It is not easy to know how one feels when you have not been in this position yourself.

A mental illness is not just like spraining your knee or some other sort physical damage that can occur. It is much more serious which requires a lot of attention. There are physical signs to watch out for and there are also emotions that are displayed. It can relate to how the person is feeling at the time. Their moods may be erratic.

It will cause parents to feel bitter about the whole situation. At this point, parents should be thinking of counseling themselves. There are many emotions that can come into play. Many parents will have to support the child and it means that they have to go into work every day. It leads to stress trying to raise the finances. Marriages can cause a great deal of stress as well.

Of course, when you have a spouse who has borderline personality disorder or bipolar, for example, you won't find this to be easy at all. It especially becomes tough when there are kids in the home. Your moods will go up and down, and children obviously won't understand what is happening. They will see mom and dad fighting and it makes them feel upset and anxious.

However, a lot of people don't actually realize how bad the situation will become over the years. This can become worse, depending on the amount of stress that is present in the home. When there are children present, it can become worse both for the individual as well as for the kids who find it difficult to understand what is happening.

It is not only adults who have problems with their mental health. It is also children and teens who will need to be treated from time to time. Unfortunately, parents are not aware of this in the beginning stages. A child may begin to be angry and withdraw to their room much of their time. They can begin to take drugs or other substances because this is a type of comfort to them.

Bullying is a major problem in schools today. It can leave kids with bad emotional scars and it is important to open up. Parents need to be aware of the symptoms. Teens often go through times where they are rebellious due to depression, for example. It can be hurtful for parents. They will sometimes think that they are not great parents.

It especially begins to stick in their minds when youngsters begin to blame parents. They prefer to stay somewhere else. It is important to remember that this is part of the disorder. The best thing that you can do is to find the best type of treatment.
