Stem Cell Therapy Centers Are Shaping The Future Of Medicine

By Ruth Carter

In developed countries, people live much longer than a hundred years ago. This is largely due to the amazing progress that was made in the treatment and management of a wide variety of diseases that used to be death sentence. With massive research efforts continuing all over the world, more and more diseases will be conquered and more and more patients will survive dread diseases. Stem cell therapy centers offer particularly high hopes for new revolutionary treatment methods.

Bone marrow transplant is not a new revolutionary treatment method. It has been around for some years, but until now, only patients suffering from blood related cancers such as leukaemia and lymphoma benefited. These patients received transplants to encourage the growth of new cells to replace those that were destroyed by chemotherapy. These transplants also help to bolster the immunity system which is also weakened by chemotherapy.

While patients suffering from certain types of cancer have most certainly benefited from bone marrow transplants, researchers firmly believe that these transplants will soon become a miracle treatment method for may other types of disease. Unfortunately, progress is slow because it is a very difficult field of research and their are numerous obstacle that need to be overcome before human patients can be treated.

Because bone marrow transplants promote the growth of new, healthy cells, it is hoped that they will one day be effective in treating debilitating brain degeneration diseases such as Parkinson and Alzheimer. It would also be used to reverse the damage done by strokes. It is believed that transplants will even be considered to treat brain damage and physical injuries to the spine.

There is also much excitement about the possibilities for treating some heart diseases with bone marrow transplants. Heart disease is currently one of the biggest health problems in the world. Researchers believe that it will be possible to replace damaged cells and blood vessels inside the heart with new cells and blood vessels. Unfortunately, research into this application of bone marrow transplants is still in its infant shoes.

Not everyone is excited about the potential benefits of bone marrow transplants. Critics are convinced that the risks are simply too high and that too many patients will die. They also point out that the umbilical blood from unborn babies is already used in the place of actual bone marrow. This will lead to greed, unethical medical practices and moral dilemmas for which the world is not ready.

Critics also complain that there is too much hype about the future potential of bone marrow transplants. They say that positive results are still years away and that researchers are falsely creating the impression that major breakthroughs will be made in the near future. They also say that places that already offer this treatment do it for no reason other than money, knowing that the treatment is extremely risky.

If researchers are to be believed, mankind is on the verge of conquering many diseases. This will certainly improve the quality of life for millions for people. One can only hope that current research delivers on the promises of the research teams.
