Here are among the most effective strategies to use to improve the delivery of patient education:

Identify the learning style of the person you are nursing. People have different learning style, for instance, there are people who learn faster when they watch a video while other prefer reading. Devices like mobile phones allow you to record instructions for these people to refer to when they like.

People suffering from chronic diseases may view the learning as a waste of time. They may also find it tedious due to their health conditions. The best way to do this is by telling them the benefits of learning how to manage their conditions.

Everyone has their weak points and their strong points. Before educating them about how they should take care of themselves, identify the two points. These will help you plan effectively on what type of teaching methods to use when teaching them and in what period of time. For example, some people have a long span of concentration others have a short span of concentration.

Include the family of your patients in their education. When the family members are involved, your patients are likely to learn faster. They can also be assisted by their loved ones when they are not able to learn or lack the capacity to take care of themselves.

Make the learning session fun and short. Engage your patients in all types of questions concerning the topic discussed. Allow the patients to ask and clarify on information provided. You can also use images and pictures where necessary to make it easier to understand, and a fun learning process. It not advisable to teach patients for a long period of time. They will get bored, tired, and lose interest in learning.
